In 2020, Malaysia was struck by the deadly coronavirus pandemic. The reigning government at the time declared a national lockdown through the Movement Control Order (MCO). Industries were forced to stop their operation immediately, which resulted in some issues.

Despite protests from the public, the government stood firm with its decision in order to minimise the amount of Covid-19 patients in hospitals and quarantine areas. The MCOs, CMCOs and RMOs took a toll on our nation and its economy, making the people suffer with many losing their jobs.

Seeing how the situation can make the nation’s economy worsen, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) proposed a retraining program to help those who were badly affected to “reboot” their careers and gain more confidence.

The TNB Reskilling Program (TRM) was first launched in October 2021, ready to help its participants to explore their capabilities while going through a job screening process simultaneously. Through their e-interview sessions, the TNB crew will match its participants within 10 different companies where they can show their capability the best.

The participants will have to follow the specific requirements set by the companies in order to be able to apply. Such requirements include having a diploma or degree/SPM certificate/technical certificate, depending on their preferred career choice.

By March 2022, the TRM program has successfully helped over 4 000 participants to apply for a job and even helped to reduce the unemployment rate in Malaysia to 3.7 (as of August 2022), proving our nation to be satisfactory in its economic growth.

The program has meticulously helped the people and the nation in many ways and has proven TNB and ILSAS to be organisations worthy to be considered as the people’s first choice. Despite its position as a corporation, the TNB family is generous in curating programs and courses that is free for all to access.

Needless to say, TNB and ILSAS are platforms where everyone can discover their capabilities and enhance them to make themselves better individuals and workers. As one might say, the success they may achieve today will be part of the organisation’s contribution as TNB and ILSAS believed in their dexterity and even gave them a second chance to make it up in their future career.
