What?! There’s a zero-cost energy resource?

Electricity was first discovered by Sir Benjamin Franklin and since then, mankind found ways to generate energy sources.

In recent years, we have faced a global issue as fossil fuels continue to recede and global warming continues to worsen. Scientists and experts struggle to find a quick solution but none seem to succeed. Thankfully, The United Nations presented the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 which offer multiple methods to attain development sustainability by 2030. In hopes of offering a sustainable lifestyle for all, the supposed “project” will also help in healing Mother Earth, making it a safe space for future generations.

Out of all research and development processes, solar energy generation showed the best potential.

Solar panels were invented to generate a cleaner energy source and placed in areas where direct sunlight is present. The heat then produces a chemical reaction which later converts into an electricity source. It is also stated in an International Energy Advance (IEA) report that solar energy has become the world’s growing source of power and easily outshines the good old fossil fuel generation.

Industries all over the globe have recently shifted their energy-generating source to solar panels as it is much cheaper than paying their electricity bills monthly. Well technically, it is considered free if you don’t put the setting up the cost into your budget. And in fact, Malaysia even supports the movement as it offers a better sustainability rate than the latter.

The premier training centre in our nation, TNB Integrated Learning Solution (ILSAS) is also a firm believer in the ESG sustainability movement and is making efforts in improving the energy sector for the better.

This year itself, ILSAS has participated in the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) Awards of Excellence and obtained an honourable mention for their tremendous effort. In fact, it was not as simple as learning the alphabet. Their TNB Reskilling Malaysia programme was able to offer jobs for those who lost theirs due to the Covid-19 pandemic that left the world awestruck. In doing so, they also maintained their efforts to prioritise achieving sustainability and simultaneously achieved at least 4 of the 17 SDGs.

As we venture closer to the future, we need to constantly remind ourselves that we need to maintain a sustainable lifestyle not only for us but also for our planet. Let’s not waste any more time and move together in building a better future for generations to come. Let’s start with our energy sector and use more solar energy. With one small step at a time, we will be able to make a better future for all.
