Overview:
The course is designed to incorporate the distribution underground cable laying and jointing management up to 33kV. The design and construction of underground cable up to 33kV is discussed in this course as well as the function of each cable components. Ever since the management of cable laying and jointing is crucial to the performance of the network system, the techniques of cable laying and jointing are presented and discussed in this course. This course also emphasis on the single core underground cable which needs special attention, for cable arrangement, laying and jointing techniques. The techniques discussed in this course follows the standard TNB cable laying and jointing procedure and specifications. Topics such as cable sheath fault, cable sheath repair and cable testing procedures are also included. Hence, it is highly recommended for those who are involved directly or indirectly in the supervision and monitoring on cable laying and jointing to attend this course to get better understanding in cable laying and jointing up to 33kV system. This course is a must for cable laying supervisors.
Objective:
On successful completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
*      Describe the principle technology of cables.
*      Correlate the importance of critical areas (stress areas) in joints and terminations to cable failures
*      Manage the installation, monitoring and supervision of 33kV cable related projects safely

Overview:
This course is established in order to deliberate cable and joint fault analysis which is commonly conducted in TNB Distribution. All new joint failures and Cross-Linked Polyethylene, XLPE cable failures are analyzed in stages to identify the root cause of such failure. The critical problem that we are facing for fault in power cables are regarding the procedures of handling power cables and also workmanship at site. As for example, the laying process at site may not following the TNBD required specifications. Likewise, jointing is required to be done at site where the trench is usually infested with moisture, dust and vibrations. These unavoidable factors can be harmful for high tension cable joint. Workmanship factors are also determined as a big contributors to cable fault in power cables. Though the power cable joints are at all times done by trained and experienced jointers, human error can be possible to occur. Hence, this course will help us to understand the root cause of cable fault and consequently, able to preclude the cable fault from occur in power system for the future.
Objective:

Overview:
This course is intended to train Cable Fault Locators to employ the latest technique & usage of highly sophisticated instruments in power cable fault location using the following techniques, methods and instruments:

  • Traveling wave technique
  • High energy Surge Voltage Generator with high & lower voltage range.
  • Latest state of the art “Pre-Location Instruments” which includes TDR, Impulse Current or Arc Reflection Method.
  • High performance “Acoustic Pin-Pointing Instrument” with digital propagation time-distance measurement gives quick & high accuracy in fault location.

Objective:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
·         Perform analysis of cable faults & interpret the test results.
·         Pre-locate cable faults using “Pulse-echo/TDR Method”, “Impulse Current Method” & “Arc Reflection Method”.
·         Perform "Pin-pointing" of cable fault using Acoustic Method or “Step Voltage Method”.
·         State the common methods & perform cable tracing & cable identification.
